Trombones and tubas are different. The spectral content of a trombone played loudly goes MUCH higher than a tuba, and possibly into the range where a layer of lacquer could provide noticeable damping. Trombones are designed to provide considerabl edge, which really comprises sharp transients that are measured as very high frequencies. Tuba players get in trouble if they make those sounds, heh, heh.
