And the members of the committee have probably rarely heard their former tubist play the excerpts solo. If they have an ideal sound in their head, it is from the full ensemble. A clean audition, musically expressive and without major gaffes would impress the committee more than having a really big tuba. Now, if you can play your best, cleanist, most musically expressive audition on a BAT, go ahead. But I think a 5/4 or big 4/4 would be better.
