A friend told me of how many people preparing for the Pittsburgh bass trombone audition of '94 went out and bought Conn 62H's to try and emulate the predecessor, and blend with the section. Murray Crewe won playing a Bach. Also, look at the Chicago Symphony audition awhile back. Very few (if any) people advanced from the prelims playing the new Yorkbrunners that everyone thought they needed to sound like Jacobs. 4/4-5/4 horns have a clarity that you need in an audition situation.
