I also think that it is important do make a conscious effort to keep interesting music under your fingers. I try(with varying degrees of success) to keep three pieces going at any given point in time. One pretty much ready to perform another well on it's way and a third that I'm just beginning. If I'm having a bad day I might start out with the one I already know in order to boost my confidence and get my head on straight.
This keeps things interesting.
