I second this recommendation. As a strictly amateur tuba player, I usually don't get to practice more than an hour a day, and usually less than this. I have been able to increase my range to where I can now hit the high F consistently on my 4/4 BBb .795 bore horn, where a couple of years ago I had trouble getting above the C. I am convinced that practicing my three octave Eb and F scales every time I sit down has really helped. That and playing interval studies which eventually have two octave, or greater, lip slurs. This stuff may not be as much fun to practice as the Carnival of Venice, but going back to practicing these fundamentals has really improved my range and sound.
