Before anyone replies to this, I want to state that I understand that everybody plays differently and you have to do what feels right and there's no one method that works for everybody and so on and so forth.
I notice there are times when I practice, that my tone and articulation sound really good. This usually happens after about 45-90 minutes of playing. I love the way I sound and it motivates me to keep practicing all night. It would seem to make the most sense for me to practice this long before a performance. However, I've often been told not to "wear myself out" and to do only a few warm-ups. This never worked for me and I usually didn't sound my best until the end of a concert.
Has anyone else had the same experience? If not, what's worked for you?
