I know a fellow who plays in a well-known trad jazz band who spent some considerable effort trying to make the G-50 work well as a BBb. He replaced the fifth-valve tubing with widely spaced first-valve tubing to open it up, among other things. He was still thinking of things to do when he ran across a good new-style King 2341. That's what he plays now.
I have to say, though, that the King's I've tried don't speak to me as BBb tubas as well as the G-50's I've tried speak to me as CC tubas, though one came close. And I'm a BBb player.
