Well, practicing is the one thing that makes me happy in an otherwise boring world. It is a productive use of time, particularly when everything is school, homework, thesis, and tuba. (Of course there is the occasional web session, since a lot of my work is computer based.)

Seriously though, for me practice is a necessity. The long-term goal of it, which is always in the back of my mind, being to get a job. I also set short-term goals for each session, for example playing technique stuff at a faster tempo, or acing a solo or etude by the end of the session. I think it has to become a part of your life as a serious musician. Once it became a major part of my life, everything else changed drastically.
