What are you trying to do with your recordings? AKG 414 mics are very nice and for less money Shure SM81s also work well. With a condenser mic you will usually need to have phantom power to power the mic. Condenser mics are generally better for tuba but there are exceptions. For any mic you will need to have some type of analog to digital conversion for the signal to work in the digital world of your computer. You will also need some form of mic pre-amp so that you can control the amount of gain going into the recorder. There are various products on the market that have two channels of phantom power, mic pre amps and conversion. Although it is not as desirable as a separate hard drive you should be able to use the hard drive in your G4 for storing tracks and if you have a CD burner built in you can use it or you can use an external drive. If you have any questions e-mail me.
