In a sort of "expanded" wind ensemble that I played in (yikes) over 25 years ago (2 tubas, rather than 1), I played a Mira-184* and my standmate played a King recording bass. The combination of "punch" and "umbrella" (combination rather than blend) made a nice product.

The next year, when the ensemble was made back into a "true" wind ensemble (1 tuba) I played a larger instrument.

*Trivia - nothing to do with the topic: I sold that 184 to David Graves (now
Baylor tuba guru), because I wanted to find another one and do something different with the 5th valve than what I did with that one. David Graves later sold it to Ron Bishop. Here's a picture of Ron Bishop playing it at some sort of educational gig.
