Charlie at Brasswind told me that the VMI tubas were exactly like the Perantucci PT-1 with the exception that the bell was a little smaller. Meaning that it had a little more throat to it. I have never played the VMI but if it plays anything like the Perantucci then it is an excellent horn in my opinion. I am not sure what the St. Petersburg are running now but the Mirafone S-186 is only like 3700.00 (I think). I own one and I really like it alot. The valves on it are some of the fastest rotary valves that I have encountered. Take that for what it is worth. If you don't plan on playing alot I wouldn't spend a dump load of money on a tuba, however i would buy something that is quality.
