I own and play a Yamaha 822 and standard bore B&S in my orchestra. I use the Yamaha f for most of my f tuba needs as it has a very wide dynamic range and the best projection of almost any tuba I have ever played. I use the Yamaha where I would only have used a CC in the past (Stravinsky, Elgar, some Wagner etc…)
The B&S works very well when I want to blend in (disappear!) into the trombone sections sound (most Berlioz pieces come to mind ). The B&S has a lighter character to the sound. Especially in the high register.
They are both great instruments but have different endearing qualities.
