The transition in keyboard temperaments goes from Just to Meantone to Well-temperament to Victorian temperaments to Equal temperament. Equal not be used much at all before cir 1850 and used almost exclusively after cir 1900. Many organs and harpsichords are still tuned in older temperaments. There are hundreds of temperaments.

If you play a horn that is reasonably in tune then perhaps the only time you will be aware of any problems is when playing with others. The goal is not to have a horn play perfectly in tune; that is impossible. Rather it is to have a horn play close enough in tune that you the player are able to make the final adjustment with your lips and ears and play in tune with others with out having to move slides in and out and resort to alternate fingerings etc.
