After 11 years of doing what you are thinking about I can tell you it can be done. I play with several small orchestras, one of which is broadcast on public radio, and Prokofiev and Mahler will challenge your fifth valve technique. Make sure you get an instrument with a long fifth valve pipe. The fifth valve should come after the four valve cluster otherwise the fifth valve won't blow free enough. The Gronitz I have has long pipe equal to a low B natural. It was ackward at first. Chamber music is no problem. Most people think I play a small CC anyway. Good luck. If you try a Gronitz buy direct if you can. D. Klienhorst does grudgingly take requests. Helps if you speak german.
