I have a silver tuba that needs some repair. The dealer says small sections of the silver finish cannot be re-done, that the entire horn has to be refinished. As an alternative, he has proposed that the repaired areas be 'silver plated'. I don't know what that means. Is it an acceptable way to refinish repairs? Will it last as long as the original finish? Is it as durable as the original finish? Anybody have any experience with this?
