Absolutely right! Which underscores the important and and fundamental (pun intended, forgive me) difference between tubas of different keys. A C is a C is a C, but it may "slot better" on an F than on a BBb horn. Jay Bertolet would probably have some insight on this, I've read a thread or two in which he discussed using different pitched tubas, but with the same sound concept. If I understand correctly, by choosing the right tuba for the piece he maintains his signature sound.
This is probably more than circusboy asked for, I hope I haven't just muddled the matter.
