Did Sousa use BB flats when he was conductor of the U.S. Marine Band? Some of his marches written prior to 1900 (and maybe prior to 1890) had bass parts that were very low. The parts I've seen seem to call for BB flats and higher-pitched basses (EE flats?). Possibly some of the parts were rearranged early in the 20th century?
