(Warning, slightly unrelated response) The lack of Miraphones is really surprising. I was at the Bear Mountain TubaChristmas last weekend and out of a total of maybe 40 tubas, there were 2 Miraphones a 186 BBb and a 191 BBb (but no CCs). Given the size of the DC group you would expect to see a few.
For those in the area who haven't tried it, the Bear Mountain event is a nice venue. It's indoors, sit down, and they provide a nice lunch. It's a relatively small group, but as a result it is much more musical than the mob at Rock Center.
