I don't blame you for being unhappy about being shifted onto a new instrument so short before Aus' most important band comps. It is a tall order by anyone's books. Personally. I have never played trombone, so I can't give you transition advice except perhaps stick to one mouthpiece while you get used to the instrument.
Good luck with the Comps! I wish my band were going, but it's a fair way from Adelaide.
