If you play non stop, your instrument will be at least warm to prevent freezing... I've got a gig last winter in january outside (that was a dixie gig) and I did it on my Miraphone Eb tuba. My pistons never freezed, but my compensating piston freeze and I was not able to move it (I don't use it a lot, except for the low range). So, blow constantly in your instrument and try to have a good mouthpiece (not in metal)... So have a nice gig!
