they're not centered on either the end of the valve or the valve cap. There should be a raised center or a recess in these, carefully dis-assemble and the re-asseble your valves, taking care to check to see if the valve spring is centered as it rests on the cap, and that when you slide the valve into the casing that it is centered on the spring.
b.t.w. I use the back holes in the caps for oiling and very very seldom dis-assebmble my piston valves, mainly to avoid having to hassle with what you're goin through.
