Some guys like Joe Barati can do 4 beat stuff extremely well.
Things is, it seems like a lot of bass trombonists are bi-polar.
They can either swing like nobody's business or crush and destroy....
I don't think that the "bass line" concept is in a lot of their vocabularies.
As well, their instrument doesn't lend itself nearly as well to a nice round pizzacato as well as the tuba does.
Like I said up top, I have heard it done, albeit by an extremely well versed player. I don't see a lot of them sitting down to practice with the though of mimicing a bas player in their heads like us tub(a)ist do.
