I tend to agree with Jay. I own two tubas which were born 50 yrs. apart. I have owned my 186CC Miraphone since its birth in 1974. With this 5 valve instrument, the false tones don't work very well. They will play, but just don't have much depth of sound. On the other hand, my 1924 Conn "Monster" Eb produces the false tone quite well. Since it only has 3 valves, this turns out to be a very good thing. So, as I agree with Jay, I would add that some instruments seem to do better with false tones than others.

That is the sum total of my thoughts on the subject(at least for now).
