Id also like to see cars and vacuum cleaners made from metal again so that they will last a long time, but the truth is there is more money to be made from continually producing garbage that self destructs after 5 years than from doing it right once. I regularly play a tuba from the 1850's, and it's a testament to brass being the perfect material for a metal instrument. Fiberglass corvette bodies seem to last at least 50 years, which is a reasonable lifetime. Maybe in 200 years an old carbon fiber tuba will be worth 1 billion dollars more (after inflation) than a new one, like with old violins.
