I remember Jim showing up with something like this that Larry Minick put together for him in the mid-late '70's. He made up some cutesy name for it - not "cimbasso" - and this was well before MW and RM offered their Self-ish "cimbassi" in their regular line of instruments.

Everyone who has challenged my "so-what" comments fails to pinpoint Verdi's cimbasso... (again) so what... a small nasal tuba...or not... (again) so what... (round-and-round)

- How horrible of a tuba and/or player were the one or two that Verdi happened to hear a few times just before he once made that comment that was verbally quoted by someone else, but not written down on paper by Verdi?

- How much do .547" bore Bach/Shires/Edwards/Conn trombones with 8-1/2" bells and bucket mouthpieces sound like mid-late 19th c. .475" bore trombones with 6" bells and teeny mouthpieces?
