Something to add that wasn't on the web page mentioned below (what is there is correct, though):

Daily, after every rehearsal, dump ALL of the water out of EVERY part of the horn. Put the slides back in, but push them in all the way this time.

Dumping out all the water will keep the oils & greases inside from getting "corrupted" too soon, and having the slides all the way in will keep them from drying out (slide grease can last for a looong time this way). A friend of my family related this to me when I bought my first tuba, and it definitely works.

Plus, an oiling _after_ practice or rehearsal doesn't hurt, either.
