Don't rule out some other brands that you can find used. Not too long ago, (since the first of the year) someone posted that they had an Alex CC for sale for 5K. (it went quickly, and I cried that I didn't have the 5K)
If Mr. Morris likes Mirafones, he will also like whatever gives you a beautiful, characteristic tuba sound. If you find a horn that you think fits the bill, have some unconnected 3rd party pro or semi pro player check the horn out. Then ask Mr. Morris his opinion, armed with your comparison information. If you are in a position to ask him to play the horn, do that. I can't see any instructor requiring a particular brand if there is another that you clearly sound better on.
