Alot of the bore size has to do with piston vs rotary. Most rotary horns have larger bores then piston horns. Most of the 6/4 horns that you see nowadays are the large piston horns like the York copies hence they have a smaller bore the the rotary 5/4. For some reason you don't see many 5/4 piston horns, and you don't see many 6/4 rotary horns. I believe (but don't know for sure) that manufactures try to keep the bore at the pistons down in size in order to keep the length of the stroke down. The larger the bore the longer the stroke would have to be. On rotary horns, length of the stroke doesn't change much regardless of the bore.
