tuning for doublers

About a year and a half ago, after playing tuba (and various other instruments on the side) I picked up euph and started doubling on the two. My euph slide is all the way in and I'm playing in tune at A=440. I don't know what I can do if I play with a group that tends to be sharp. I asked my teacher about this and he said that it's a sign that I'm playing with a full tone. I'm not sure I buy that argument, since if that were the case, wouldn't the manufacturers make the tubing a half an inch less or so?

Anyway, I've noticed lately that my tuba tuning is riding sharp. I have my tuning slide out most of the way and I still have to lip the pitch down a bit. Have any other doublers out there encountered these problems? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott
