I've known lots of trumpet players who actually studied under Claude Gordon. He wanted them to keep their chest up high - not letting it slip down at all. That way, the lower muscles literally push the air out. This is exactly the opposite of what Floyd Cooley taught me, which was to let the lungs and air column just collapse. As Brian Fredrickson said, this was designed for trumpet players who have to have a dependable screech register. I would suggest augmenting your Claude Gordon "systematic approach" with James Stamp's far less macho approach to the same goal.
