Yep. The gig bag is the way to go. The flight attendant asked that I bucket my tuba up. It was all quit funny. I wouldn't worry about the size of the bell. I was playing a 1918 Conn at the time and I think the bell was a little over 20 inches. That coupled with my syndrome of LargeAssMaximus we didn't have a problem.
