I have not played the front-action big Holtons, but I have tried a couple of the 3-valve pre-WWI top-action models (there seems to be a bunch of them around, made around 1914-1917). They both had intonation problems and 3rd valve combinations seemed to be pretty stuffy. Of course, your mileage may vary, but if it were between one of the big York eefers or the Holtons, I'd opt for the Yorks.
