I don't presume to be an expert, but don't a lot of the newer motor oils contain detergents? I thought this was becoming common practice to extend the wear life of the bearing surfaces in the engine.
I tried looking around a little to see if it was documented, but any motor oils reseller and/or manufacturer must provide a MSDS (material data safety sheet). That should tell what lurks inside of the bottle.
