After all your additional time spent helping them, a mere "Thank You" would surely help soothe some pain.
I was asked to 'sight-read' last year in a concert where they had no euphonium players. We did it and not one single person said thanks... not even the conductor who called and asked. Next time they ask, I don't think I will be available to help out.
