I agree. I never had a problem having only 4 valves and I would be VERY cautious about adding a valve to an Alex. Remember, the beauty of an Alex is it's tone quality. If the added valve section were to in any way affect a nodal point on the horn, the results could be disaterous. Besides, you can play a low D as all four and a low Db 23 as a false tone. I remember being worried about this very issue when I played the Wonderland Duets with Jay Bertolet, but there was no problem at all with the low D's.
