Mark, the answer is No. It really doesn't matter too much where the valve is placed in relation to the slide. Think about it - don't most top action tubas have the main tuning slide BEFORE the valve section? Even some of the 4/4 'brunners do this. My B&S has the leadpipe coming into the 5th valve and then on to the subsiquent valves (1,2,3,4). Brian is correct, your 5th comes after the MTS so that the desired i.d. is achieved and this falls after the MTS.
