Tonguing

I have read several previous entries about not getting hung up on details, but to concentrate on the sound. However, I am still having trouble. I too am one of these folk that picked the tuba back up after 23 years. When I say the word "toe" or "doe", I can feel where my tongue is making contact, just above the teeth. However, when playing, it immediately drops to a point where a lot of contact is being made on the back side of the teeth. It gives me that "spitting sound". I have tried to really concentrate on stopping the 'ole tongue from doing that, but am finding it very difficult. I have been working on better breath support, and that has helped some, but not nearly enough to make me happy. Any input would be much appreciated!
