Sure. With all other things being the same, a wider flair (additional metal to outside radious) will give a broader and less directional sound. Someone who plays too edgy could mellow their sound with a broader bell flair on their horn. If a horn sounds to chubby or dull, a smaller bell flair will take care of that. I'm not talking about the throat. That would mean a different mandrel. Should we think it as simple as I just said, we'd be wrong. The bell also acts as a radiator of sound and that includes radiating back to the player. A necessary function if we are to have control over the sound we produce. What gives the most satisfying feedback to the player, may not sound best to the audience.
