It is completely absurd to think that you have to study with Jim Self ahead of time in order to be accepted to USC. In fact, in the four years I've been there, I have always felt that SC was too lenient at times (though that is probably not the case now that the studio is larger than years past). Brandyn, go for every one of the schools on your list with confidence that the best tuba players will be accepted. DO NOT let this guy discourage you. I'm sure you will do fine. Oh, and ever hear of financial aid? 65% of the students at USC receive it, and it's easy to get, believe me. Good luck!
