I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but the best way to protect your bottom bow: don't drop your horn on it. There are hundreds of arguements for and against wrapping different parts of the horn... my only advice is this: Only wrap your tuba if you don't ever plan on ever unwrapping it. It all comes down to personal preference in the long run anyways. Some people like the look of duct tape around the bottom of their bell, some people like the look of tarnish on the silver, and some people like to spend half an hour every night washing down and sterilizing their axe.

Of course, keeping a horn dent-free is important, but all I really care about is how the horn plays. Good luck to you.
