Tuba Modifications

A quick question for all you repair gurus:

I've had a St. Pete for about 2 years now, and I really like the horn. (No, I'm not trying to beat the proverbial dead horse :) ) I'm quite happy with it with a few exceptions:

I'd like to replace the valves. They're not awful, but they could be a lot better. Would pistons work or is that impossible?

I'd like to add a 5th valve if possible and helpful.

Has anyone ever cut one of these down to CC? Did it work well?

From being good and reading the archives :) , I see many people talking about the leadpipe perhaps being too small and thus limiting the instrument. Can this be fixed?

That said, I doubt I could afford most of these modifications, but I am curious as to how much each of these improvements would probably cost. I'm just seeing what my options are.

Thanks a lot!

Phil
