I am the one responsible for this year's Young Artist Tuba list. I designed it to be played on CC or BBb. I think that this list is punitive to F tuba playing.
The only exception is the Vaughan Williams in the final round. My rationale for including the first movement of this piece is because we all learn this tune on BBb or CC first, and it is a good piece of standard literture that is worth learning, no matter what tuba is in your lap.
I tried my level best to come up with a good fair contrabass list. I'll look forward to hearing the tapes.
