In today's age of digital editing, multiple takes, and computer enhanced products, listening to Jacobs' recording of the VW is a true marvel. To be sure, there are blemishes on this recording that you won't find on other recordings of the work. Further, the stories about the circumstances under which this particular recording was done are the stuff of legends. All that said, I find that recording to be one of the best ones I know of. The music he makes with the piece is completely first-rate. If you can overlook the technical problems he has during the piece (and they really aren't that bad), his interpretation of the work is quite exciting. Very different from the polished, very English version that is personified by the Fletcher recording.

This recording frequently comes up on eBay and I would sincerely recommend getting yourself one and enjoying it. I have no trouble enjoying mine.

My opinion for what it's worth...
