I saw him play a lot and also had quite some lessons from him. I think his playing is absolutely beyond category.
There is some movement of his lips and face when he's playing, but I think it's nothing out of the ordinary.
Besides that the inside movement of lips tongue etc. and what you see from outside are two different things.
Your friend should rather have listened to all the air and breathing stuff that Sam has. That's really important.
