My son is a hs senior, & we have only recently started flying with the tuba -- auditions, etc. In 6 flights, we have only been charged once & I'd have to agree, finding a skycap & offering a nice tip seems to be the way to go. My biggest concern is not $$, but actually getting the tuba on board. Our last flight was on a small jet & at the last minute, because the plane was full, we were told they couldn't get the tuba on! Luckily, it was on the way home from an audition, & we switched flights, but if it had been the other way around we would have been in a real pickle. Looking ahead, I'm worried about his traveling to various conferences, gigs, etc. while in school. Is there any foolproof way to insure that the tuba actually gets to where it's supposed to be going?
