Naw--sheer strength is likely higher than tensile strength as it is with most threaded connectors. Where a skinny stud gets you in trouble is with bending. This is why it would break above the tightening nut rather than below it, even though the tension is higher under the nut. In fact, if you fill it up with nuts and washers so that it is preloaded in tension to a greater amount than the compression side of a bending moment, it will probably be much stronger than if left bare, because it will be biased (as in transistor bias) out of the bending condition.

If you don't trust the Miraphone ring on any of your projects, I'd be willing to find it a suitable grave, heh, heh.
