I'm prone to cracking and bleeding in the very corners of my lips. Lip balm did absolutely nothing for it. On a hunch, I tried what my vet calls "the Golden Retriever's Best Friend"; a canine ointment called Otomax.
Nominally for ear infections, it contains an antibiotic, an antifungal a steriod and a mild anesthetic, so it's useful for small injuries also.
I tried a drop at each lip corner and inside of 3 days, my lips were completely healed. (or should I say "heeled"?)
Scoff all you want, but it works...
