Well, it doesn't matter how secure you have your instrument, because the baggage security officers will take it out and throw it right back in. I have had recent bad experiences with them at the airport transporting my euphonium from Baltimore/Washington International - searched the case for "destructive devices" and threw the carefully wrapped tuning slides back into the case, where they put several large dings and scratches on my horn. Not that this really gives you an answer to your question, just be very careful how you choose to package your instrument because the U.S. Government does not care what it is or how much it costs.
