Noting that the lead pipes of the tubas currently at my disposal (sort of a tuba penitentiary)all smoothly flow on from the receiver to the lead pipe without the abutment of leadpipe end found in trumpets and knowing that a gap twixt abutment and mouthpiece end has a pronounced and deleterious effect(at least to the psyche if not to the dispassionate observer- and what is music without passion I ask you...)in trumpets I have taken to using my handy dremel to gently grind the interior of the last half inch of virtually all the shanks in my tuba mouthpiece ranch so that taper out to become very thin indeed; allowing a minimum of turbulance when the air exits the shank and enters the leadpipe. Works for me ( that psyche effect...) and I'm not exactly seeking approval..... but does anyone out there see anything ostentatiously wrong with the (already executed) scheme? hEnRy
