This is a very good posting, coming a short time after a series on European study. A few posters with orchestral ambitions had expressed misgivings about studying with Roger because of his emphasis on solo playing. Although as a symphonic player he yearned for and ultimately chose the path of greater exposure and challenge, he never gave less than 100% of his considerable abilities, as well as an audacious musical imagination to underlie and characterize whatever work appeared on his stand. Listeners are right to be impressed by a body of orchestral recording that reach as far back as the Eastman Wind Ensemble and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He's a musician with thoughts, insights, and experiences to be shared, and recordings to be listened to, for whatever purpose or goal one has in mind.
